Corning has become an AI infrastructure supplier, not a glass company. Optical now carries the growth and management has twice raised its own plan, but the next leg rides on a technology that has not yet showed up in the numbers. How much of the $40 billion plan assumes optical scale-up arrives by 2028?
In Q2 FY2026 optical sales passed $2 billion for the first time and profit grew 77%, with data center sales up 65%. Those are Corning's own adjusted figures, and glass and display are now the steady part that funds the build. How much of optical sales now come from the top three customers?
The stated plan has gone from $13 billion of annualized sales at launch to $40 billion by 2030. Running fiber inside the AI racks and a new photonics business are left out of today's numbers until the timing is proven.
The new wafer plant was built on temporary power and water, and fixing that forced an extended shutdown: the segment lost money in Q2 FY2026. It still targets a $3 billion solar business, so the spending lands before the sales it pays for. How much of the solar drag disappears once the wafer plant restarts?
