EQT finished paying off the debt from its Equitrans purchase and is now spending that freed-up cash wiring its gas to named buyers — power plants, data centres, overseas LNG — instead of the daily market. Whether those projects get built on time is now the whole story. How much of that contracted demand starts paying off before 2030?
EQT is the second-largest gas marketer in the US. It signed LNG offtake and a West Virginia power deal priced off electricity rather than gas, so more of its volume now sells on negotiated terms instead of the daily price. How much of its 2026 output is already sold under long-term deals?
Net debt fell from about $13.7B after the Equitrans purchase to roughly $5.5B. The money that used to go to lenders now funds buybacks and new projects, and management says it wants to buy stock aggressively whenever prices fall.
2026 growth spending is about $600M, with Southgate pulled forward and $85M of capital moved from 2027 into this year. But the LNG contracts start in 2030 and the new CPV power plant in 2031, so the payoff trails the bills by years. What has management already committed to spend on Southgate and MVP Boost?
