Analysis

Last 4 earnings calls · through Q2 FY2026

DuPont has stopped breaking itself up and now has to prove the smaller company can grow on its own: two segments, no electronics, guidance raised again, and an internal productivity plan carrying the margin story. How much of the raised 2026 growth target is price rather than volume?

  • The break-up is finished, so growth has to come from inside.

Qnity and Aramids are gone, so Healthcare & Water is about half of sales. Management lifted full-year organic growth past 4% and says it is running at or above its Investor Day targets, so growth rests on execution, not another break-up. What does Healthcare & Water need to grow for the full-year target to hold?

  • Construction stopped dragging, and that alone lifts growth.

Building Technologies shrank for years and is now guided roughly flat for 2026, with Q2 FY2026 up on multifamily housing. At a quarter of sales, not shrinking is most of the gap between last year's growth and this year's target.

  • Higher oil and gas costs land before the price that covers them.

Inflation runs about $90 million this year, and most of the surcharges meant to cover it only start in the second half, so costs hit the books first. The raised guidance holds only if customers keep accepting those increases. How much of the oil and gas price increase does management expect to keep?

Bullish
  • Healthcare and water mix
Half of sales now come from healthcare and water, where medical packaging and procedure volumes support steadier growth than the industrial businesses.
  • Productivity and cost control
Productivity programs and portfolio simplification aim to lift margins without needing stronger demand, which reduces how much the result depends on the industrial cycle.
  • Firepower for buybacks and deals
With the separations done and debt repaid, management can fund buybacks and small acquisitions out of cash flow without stretching the balance sheet.
Bearish
  • Water exposure to Middle East
Logistics disruption and shifting desalination project timing showed how much of the water business depends on events in the Middle East that management cannot control.
  • Construction demand still weak
About a quarter of sales is tied to construction markets that have fallen for several years, and the plan assumes they stop falling rather than that they recover.
  • Price increases cover cost rises
Part of the second-half improvement comes from price increases that only match higher oil and gas costs, so volumes carry less of the growth than the headline suggests.
