Last 4 earnings calls · through Q2 FY2026

Vertex has stopped being a one-disease company. For the first time the newer products are visibly adding growth, and revenue guidance went up again in Q2 FY2026 — but the cost of launching three more businesses lands now, before their sales arrive. How much of the $500 million non-CF target is CASGEVY versus JOURNAVX?

  • The growth is no longer coming from cystic fibrosis alone.

CASGEVY and JOURNAVX now drive about a quarter of the company's year-over-year growth, and the full-year revenue target was raised on the back of them. A company that lived on one medicine now has three products paying the bills. How much of that growth is price and currency rather than more patients?

  • A real second franchise is already filed and dated.

The kidney drug pove cut proteinuria by 52% in its Phase III interim, and the application is filed with a decision date of November 30. Renal is meant to be Vertex's next big business, and it is a launch now, not a hope.

  • The new products cost money well before they earn it.

Marketing spend rose 45% in Q2 FY2026, split between the pain launch and kidney-launch preparation. Management pushed the end of JOURNAVX's free-drug program to the first half of 2027, so the launch keeps costing more than it earns.

Bullish
  • CF switch to once-daily pill
Vertex keeps its cystic fibrosis franchise growing by moving patients to a once-daily medicine that covers more mutations and reaches younger children.
  • Renal launch nears approval
A kidney medicine filed for approval turns a long-discussed pipeline into a near-term launch that management says could one day match cystic fibrosis.
  • CASGEVY and JOURNAVX revenue
Gene therapy and the non-opioid pain drug add revenue outside cystic fibrosis, giving Vertex new growth lines while its core franchise matures.
Bearish
  • Cystic fibrosis concentration
Nearly all revenue still comes from cystic fibrosis, and the largest product is shrinking as patients move to the newer once-daily medicine.
  • Successor CF pipeline unclear
Management now says beating its own cystic fibrosis drug is very hard, so next-generation candidates may add little and one program was dropped.
  • Pain revenue lags prescriptions
JOURNAVX prescriptions are growing quickly, but payer restrictions keep patients on support programs, so revenue lags and the margin fix keeps slipping.
