Analysis

Last 4 earnings calls · through Q2 FY2027

Veeva's four calls tell one story: the software is becoming the floor, and the bet is now AI that does the work itself. CRM shrank from a quarter of revenue toward a tenth while Falcon — agents that replace human labour — became the pitch. How fast could Falcon revenue scale if Veeva's first adopters go live on time?

  • CRM went from Veeva's core to a shrinking slice — and had its best quarter.

CRM was a quarter of revenue two years ago; management now sees about a tenth by 2030. Yet Q2 FY2027 was "our best CRM quarter ever." It keeps shrinking inside Veeva, so growth must now come from everywhere else.

  • Veeva's next product sells work, not software.

Falcon is agentic labour: agents doing jobs people used to do inside Veeva's applications, sold by the document or the case. Gassner calls it "disruptive," and says interest is so high that Veeva, not the buyers, is the rate limiter. What has to go right before a top 20 pharma signs a Veeva Falcon deal?

  • R&D's old cash cows are fading before the new ones are big.

The CFO described a "changing of the guards": eTMF, CTMS and regulatory carried R&D growth, while the next wave — EDC, eCOA, RTSM, safety, LIMS — is large but early. That gap is why a strong quarter added only $5 million to the year. Which of Veeva's new R&D products is furthest along in revenue?

Bullish
  • Broad product growth
Revenue is spread across R&D, quality, data and Crossix, so the commercial CRM business that built the company matters less each year.
  • Falcon agentic labor
Selling agentic labor to the same buyers who already run Vault applications opens a budget line that does not replace software Veeva sells today.
  • Vault CRM win rate
Veeva still wins most CRM decisions and its largest customers are migrating, which protects the installed base and the add-on sales that follow it.
Bearish
  • Early R&D product ramp
Development Cloud growth rests on products that are early and slow to implement, so new wins do not quickly replace the business that is maturing.
  • AI revenue timing
Management expects AI and agentic labor to add little revenue this year, so the new business is still a promise that has to be proven with paying customers.
  • Life sciences budgets
Veeva sells only to drugmakers and device makers, so their pricing pressure, mergers and regulatory changes reach Veeva's results without much cushion.
