A year ago Masco was cutting its outlook because tariffs were outrunning price. By mid-2026 the tariff bill was shrinking, the price increases had stuck without costing volume, and the 2026 outlook was raised — the question is how much of that lasts.
Plumbing took mid-single-digit price and volume still beat plan: Q1 was the strongest first-quarter volume since the pandemic, with growth in trade, retail and e-commerce. Price that holds units turns a cost passthrough into share. How much of plumbing's volume gain is share versus a resilient market?
The tariff bill fell to about $200 million annualized from $270 million, and Q2 brought a $95 million refund. Some of that went into "targeted strategic investments" booked against sales — a lower top line now to buy growth later. Was the $95 million refund spent on growth, or did it offset other costs?
DIY sales keep falling mid-single digits because they track existing home sales, which sit near three-decade lows. Pro paint is growing mid-single digits and is approaching half of Behr, so Masco now leans on the half that moves. How much more pro paint share is left to take from a low base?
