Last 4 earnings calls · through Q2 FY2026

Lennox has split in two: commercial is compounding on a new factory and parts deals, while the housing recovery keeps slipping; management now puts the real payoff in 2027. How much of the commercial growth is share gain versus a recovering market?

  • Lennox's commercial business is now carrying the company.

Building Climate Solutions grew revenue 24% in Q2 FY2026 on emergency replacement and national-account wins, and commercial rose from about a third of company revenue to nearly 40%. One segment now holds the whole profit story.

  • Management pushed the housing recovery out by a full year.

In Q2 FY2026 Lennox cut earnings guidance and said the real recovery benefit now lands in 2027, not this year, trimming its home-comfort revenue guide to about 1%. Which home-comfort lines recover first in 2027?

  • Inflation is arriving faster than the price increases that pay for it.

New metal tariffs doubled Lennox's 2026 cost-inflation forecast to about 5%, and factories ran below normal to burn off inventory, so the costs land on this year's results before the sales that pay for them. How much of the tariff cost is still unmitigated for 2027?

Bullish
  • Commercial orders keep converting into sales and share gains. Its new factory and stocked emergency parts bring in higher-margin work, so profit grows even when homeowners stay away.
  • Parts, accessories and acquired brands keep selling to the same dealers. Extra parts sold to existing dealers need no new factory, so those deals pay off faster than housing has to recover.
  • Tariff rules stabilise and the price increases stick through the fall. Stable rules let Lennox stop spending engineers on tariffs and get back to the cost cutting that protects its margin.
Bearish
  • The housing recovery keeps sliding past 2027. Repairs keep replacing new systems, so the business that supplies most of revenue stays small while its costs do not.
  • Rivals keep undercutting on price in new-home construction. Lennox already walked away from loss-making builder accounts, so more price pressure means fewer sales and less volume.
  • Tariff and material costs keep rising and the price rises do not stick. Each month costs outrun price eats into the margin it took years to build, so profit stays lower until sales recover.
